2015 Rwanda Cycling Cup: Another opportunity for Rwandan cyclists

Rwanda Cycling Federation (FERWACY) in conjunction with COGEBANQUE and SKOL have organized a cycling competition that is aimed at helping Rwandan cyclists to prepare and be ready for different cycling tours in 2015.

During a press conference ahead of the beginning of Rwanda Cycling Cup, Aimable Bayingana, the president of FERWACY said that this competition will be a platform for young and upcoming Rwandan sportsmen to display their cycling potential and to gain the necessary experience.

"I believe from this competition we will be able to identify new talent during the ten stages of the cup but beyond that, this is an opportunity for them to gain more experience that will take them to the next stage in their cycling careers,” Mr Bayingana said.

On their part, the sponsors of the cycling tourney reckon that Rwanda has made great strides in cycling as a sport and the achievements speak for themselves, hence the need to support a sport that is fast becoming popular in the country.

As a result, SKOL and COGEBANQUE wanted to be the pioneers of supporting initiatives to develop cycling as talent to nurture youth who will yet again seek to put up an impressive performance Rwanda during Tour du Rwanda 2015.

The riders will attempt to emulate Valens Ndayisenga, 20, who upstaged visiting riders last year to win the annual international cycling tour for Rwanda for the first time.

Mujyambere Louis de Montfort, Cogebanque’s Commercial Manager told a press conference that after realising how Rwandan cyclists were excelling at the international stage, the bank decided to support young and promising cyclists by sponsoring initiatives aimed at helping them advance their talent.

He said that such initiatives will help the upcoming ones to rise through the ranks and take their talent further to emulate their colleagues in the national team.
