Family affair- Valens and sister take wins at Race for Culture

Valens Ndayisenga (Tirol Cycling Team) won the Race for Culture on Saturday with a dominant sprint on finishing straight. Valens produced a final burst of speed to take a comprehensive victory ahead of Patrick Byukusenge (Benediction Club) and Mathieu Twizerane (Cycling Club for All).

The two-time Tour du Rwanda winner said he was thrilled with his first win at the Rwanda Cycling Cup after a long 167.8 km race which started at Gatuna,the border with Uganda and ended in Nyanza.

“ I am happy to win today.I have not competed in many races at the Rwanda Cycling Cup because I was racing somewhere else with my Team Tirol and Dimension Data. So it’s good to win my first race here.” Valens said Familly affair,

Valens also said it was a “perfect day for his family” as his sister Xaverine Nirere took the women’s 84 km race ahead of Beatha Ingabire and Magnifique Manizabayo.

Jean Ruberwa (Nyabihu Cycling Team) and Yves Nkurunziza won the U23 and junior categories respectively

The 2017 Rwanda Cycling Cup series continues with Central Challenge from Nyamata to Muhanga on May 20.

The RCC is jointly sponsored by Skol Rwanda and who continue their commitment the development of Rwandan cycling by renewing for another year the sponsorship of the Rwanda Cycling Cup.
