Hadi Janvier wins gold for Rwanda in All Africa Games

Three days after Rwandan riders won the bronze medal the men’s team time trial, they put in one of their best performances on the continent.

Hadi Janvier secured Rwanda’s first gold medal in non-Paralympic sports with a victory in the men’s road race on Sunday at the All Africa games in Brazzaville,Congo.

The Benediction Club rider was a constant presence at the front of the race, distancing his main rivals with an impressive riding.He crossed the line in 03:29:37’, 31’ seconds ahead of chasers Butler Reynard (South Africa) and Barbari Adil (Algerie).

“Am very happy we reached our goal. My team mates were fantastic today, I couldn’t win without their help.We were riding againts top riders” said an overwhelmed Hadi.

Sempoma Felix,Team Rwanda Assistant Director Sportif, praised Rwandan riders’ efforts,”it was amazing.Just days after our bronze medal,we won our first gold medal in All Africa Games.I am pleased with our perfomance.”

Team Rwanda riders will now take their new-found confidence from winning the gold medal at All Africa Games, with another shot at the Worlds in Richmond,USA later this month.
