Rwanda to host the 2015 Africa Continental Mountain Bike Championships
Musanze – The home town of Team Rwanda will play host to the Confederation of African Cycling (CAC) Mountain Bike Championships from 8 to 10 May, the first time that Rwanda has hosted the continental mountain bike showcase event.
The event, bid for by Rwanda Cycling Federation with the support of the Ministry of Sport and Culture, is expected to attract top mountain bike riders from Africa.
“We have been diligently working to prepare this course to be world-class caliber and the races are eagerly awaited,” said Aimable Bayingana, the President of Rwanda Cycling Federation.
“We are confident this will be an enjoyable and challenging experience for all, whether cyclist or spectator. We look forward to seeing everyone’s hard effort tested as the prestigious title of 2015 African Champion is at stake along with Olympic selection bids.”
This is the second time that Rwanda is hosting a continental cycling event having hosted the 2010 African Mountain Bike Continental Championships.
Rudy Hauser and Ueli Gunpli, who work for Trailworks, a trail design and consulting company in Switzerland, have been working hard on constructing the 6km-long track on a piece of land next to the Africa Rising Cycling Centre (ARCC), the home of Team Rwanda Cycling (TRC).
