Team Rwanda arrives in US for historic tour
Rwanda national cycling team has jetted in Oregon and are prepping for their US tour which will see them compete in two races including a highly-anticipated Colorado Classic race.
The team will spend some time in Oregon where they will, from July 19 – 23, ride the Cascade Cycling Classic as a tune –up before they head to Colorado to compete in the inaugural Colorado Classic which will be held from August 8-13, 2017.
The Colorado Classic is an HC race sanctioned by Union Cycliste Internationale and is is being regarded as one of the highest caliber races for Team Rwanda to date.
The Rwandan contingent for the Colorado Classic includes the 2015 Tour du Rwanda winner Jean Bosco Nsengimana and reigning national road champion Gasore Hategeka,it also features Bonaventure Uwizeyimana,Jean Claude Uwizeye and two strong young riders Rene Jean Paul Ukiniwabo and Didier Munyaneza.
Speaking of the squad,Sterling Magnell the team’s head coach said they have assembled a team that will aim for results, “As you know it’s a high-level race and comes with a lot of exposure.You got take an invitation like that and make the most of it. It’s really key for us to be able bring in a quality team and use the opportunity to show where Rwanda stands and how far we have come in the sport.”
According to race organizers, 15 teams including four UCI World Tour teams such as BMC Racing Team, Cannondale-Drapac Professional Cycling Team, Trek-Segafredo and UAE Team Emirates have confirmed to take part in the race.
